Hours & Fees

Hopkinton State Park is open from sunrise to sunset, according to DCR. In summer the gates close at 8:00 pm, from May through early September, and earlier in September and October as the sun sets sooner. The lifeguarded beaches are open for swimming late May through Labor Day. The park can close temporarily on any busy summer day when its parking is full, so "open" and "letting people in" are not always the same thing.

Daily Hours and Gate Times

DCR's park page gives the hours simply as sunrise to sunset. DCR's reservation site, which handles the park's pavilion bookings, is more specific about the gates: they close daily at 8:00 pm from May through early September, and the closing time moves earlier through September and October as sunset comes sooner. It also says there is no early entry or late exit, and that vehicles still inside after the posted closing time are locked in and the authorities are notified.

Closing times are posted around the park and on DCR's page. If you're hiking the far trails on a fall evening, check the posted time when you arrive and count backward from it.

Swimming Season

The two beaches are open for swimming late May through Labor Day, and DCR staffs them with lifeguards seasonally. DCR does not publish a daily lifeguard schedule, so check at the beach. Swimming is not allowed anywhere outside the designated swimming areas. Swimming guide.

Boathouse Hours

Boat and kayak rentals are run by Regatta Point Community Sailing, not DCR. Regatta Point lists its Hopkinton hours as weekends 10 am to 7 pm in May, daily 10 am to 7 pm from Memorial Day to Labor Day, weekends 10 am to 6 pm in September, and closed October through April. The last boat goes out one hour before closing. Boat rentals.

Fees by Season

Daily parking fees apply Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day Monday: $8 for Massachusetts plates and $30 for other plates. DCR posts no daily fee outside that season. Passes, waivers and payment details are on the parking page.

Capacity Closures

DCR says the park temporarily closes when parking reaches capacity and reopens once enough spaces free up. Its reservation site says this happens on summer weekends and some holidays, and that no vehicles or people on foot are let in until the gates reopen. DCR posts these closures on its Park Alerts dashboard.

Pavilion Times

If you have booked a pavilion, check-out is 30 minutes before the posted closing time, and a booking not checked in by noon counts as a no-show unless you arranged otherwise with park staff. New pavilion dates open on DCR's reservation site at 8 am Eastern daily from April 1 through Labor Day Monday; in the off season they open at 9 am on weekdays and 10 am on weekends. Pavilions.

Winter

The park stays open sunrise to sunset outside summer. DCR lists cross-country skiing among its activities, and snowmobiles are allowed in winter once there are at least 4 inches of snow cover. The boathouse is closed October through April. For current conditions, call the park office at (508) 435-4303.
