Plan Your Visit

To plan a visit to Hopkinton State Park, decide first whether it's a summer beach day or a trail day. Beach days run late May through Labor Day, cost $8 to park with Massachusetts plates ($30 otherwise), and on hot weekends mean arriving early, because the park closes temporarily once its lots fill. Trail days work any time of year, sunrise to sunset, and outside Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day Monday DCR posts no daily parking fee. Either way, bring a card or the YODEL app; the meters take no cash.

Which Part of the Park

Getting There

Use 164 Cedar Street, Hopkinton, MA 01748. From I-495, take exit 21A to Main Street, follow it to the third traffic light in downtown Hopkinton, turn left onto Route 85 north, and the entrance is about 2 miles on the right. DCR tags the park as transit friendly. Parking and directions.

How Long to Stay

Plan on staying a while on a beach day, since getting in early is the hard part. A walk can be an hour on the Healthy Heart trails near the entrance or a few hours on the longer trails. Leave time to reach your car before the gates close: 8 pm in summer, earlier in fall (hours).

Accessibility

DCR lists the park as wheelchair accessible, with an accessible beach, beach wheelchairs, accessible fishing and accessible restrooms. The Beach Pavilion has a fully accessible bathroom. Call (508) 435-4303 to confirm beach wheelchair availability.

If the Park Is Full

No one is let in during a capacity closure, on foot or by car. Nearby: Ashland State Park (also fills in summer) and Whitehall State Park (free parking, no swimming). Or see things to do in Hopkinton.

Rules to Know

Dogs leashed everywhere; no motorboats; no fires outside picnic areas; no alcohol; no drones without a permit; no camping. All rules.
